Thirty-six participants, including an
Italian contingent of six drivers and six
teams. The tricolore was well
represented in the first round of the
F.Renault 2.0 ALPS championship at
Vallelunga, and the home fans
certainly had to something to cheer
about when the Antonio Fuoco, the
debutant from the Ferrari Driver
Academy, crossed the line first in race
2
in the Prema Powerteam. This
superb victory was consolidated by
Fuoco's team-mate, Luca Ghiotto,
who finished second in the same race.
Another rising star of the national
development program, Ghiotto had
already participated in a couple of
ALPS races at the end of the 2012
season. Staying with the rookies,
another notable performance came
from Alberto Di Folco who, like Fuoco,
started out in karting. Di Folco was
entered by Torino Motorsport, who
have always been committed to
developing the best in Italian driving
talent. After a year in the Challenge
Formula Renault 2.0 Italia 2012, which
featured the late lamented Tatuus
2009,
Dario Capitanio and Daniele
Cazzaniga have now debuted in ALPS
too. Capitanio represented BVM
Racing, achieving excellent results
during qualification and race 2, after
being forced to retire in the first race,
while Cazzaniga in the Viola Formula
managed to cross the finish line in
both races. Kevin Gilardoni, who took
part in ALPS in 2011, and won the
Challenge Formula Renault 2.0 Italia
2012,
competed in the GSK Grand
Prix, and lost no time in demonstrating
both his own qualities and those of
the young team from Lombardy. Other
Italian representatives in the paddock
included Pietro Peccenini, who had
already participated in Fast Lane
Promotion events, and was keen to be
among the protagonists of the ALPS
championship in the TS Corse.
As far as the teams are concerned, in
addition to GSK Grand Prix and Torino
Motorsport, who have been involved
with Fast Lane Promotion’s new ALPS
competition from the outset, BVM
Racing, Euronova Racing, and Prema
Powerteam all renewed their
participation, and were joined for the
first time by TS Corse.
