A
Andres Jenzer is the team
principal of Jenzer Motorsport,
one of the most successful teams
in the first decade of the Formula
Renault 2000 championship, as
well as being a point of reference
for motorsports in Switzerland. In
2013,
the Swiss team was
welcomed back into the fold by
Renault Sport and took part in the
F.Renault 2.0 ALPS and Eurocup
F.Renault 2.0 championships.
Why did you decide to return to
Formula Renault 2.0?
As far as I’m concerned, the
Renault organisation has always
been number one for emerging
young drivers on the world
motorsports scene. Over the
last three years they
have introduced a
number of
significant
improvements and transformed
the product, re-establishing the
relationship with the Tatuus
brand, and this was a major
factor in my decision”.
What’s your opinion of Fast Lane
Promotion?
The people at Fast Lane have
already demonstrated their
potential over the years they have
been working together with
Renault. We first encountered
them in 2005 when we came to
Italy to defend the Red Bull
colours in the Italian Formula
Renault 2000 championship. We
have always had an excellent
relationship with Domenico Porfiri
and Barbara Petrivelli, who are
the key figures in the
organisation”.
What are your impressions
of the new single-seater?
We haven’t been able to carry
out much testing yet due to the
poor weather conditions this
winter: when it wasn’t too cold, it
was raining! But the car is
definitely a step forward with
respect to the previous model”
You will be participating in
both the Eurocup and ALPS.
How will you manage your
team from a logistical point
of view? What sort of
demands will this place
on you?
Kevin Joerg is the only
driver who will be
participating in both
competitions, we feel that
he needs to get a lot of
kilometres under his belt in racing
conditions and we have decided
to support his development as
driver by giving him the
opportunity to take part in
fourteen races, seven in ALPS
and seven in the Eurocup.
From a logistical point of view, we
don’t envisage any problems
because the two series do not
coincide and we will be using the
same personnel for both
categories. There’s a lot to do,
but it’s good for us to have a lot
of work to keep the youngsters
busy. Also, Switzerland is located
at the heart of Europe, and this
means that all the tracks
are more or less the same
distance away”.
What do you think of the
ALPS championship?
The format is excellent because
it is organised along the same
lines as the Eurocup and allows
the drivers to complete the large
number of kilometres they need
to learn how to handle this single-
seater. The lengthy free practice
sessions on the Friday before the
races are extremely important for
the young drivers”.
What are the differences between
ALPS and Eurocup?
It’s been three years since we
took part in either championship,
so our team is new to both
categories. There will be a lot
more spectators at the World
Series by Renault weekends, but
we have to concentrate on the
work on the track and not on
marketing”.
