by Mattia Tremolada T The Italian Formula 4 Championship has been the reference championship for all the drivers that want to move from karting to single‐seaters. We interviewed Luca De Donno, head of WSK, to discover more about the success of the series, which is set to welcome a new generation of F4 racecars. "We are delighted to have ended the season on a rise with 33 cars at the start of the final round. This clearly shows that the championship is in good shape, with great numbers, but also a lot of quality. Several nations are represented and many drivers debuting in single‐seaters after having become karting professionals. The satisfaction is double if considering the situation in which we found ourselves in April when we didn't even know if we would be able to start the season. The start was good, albeit complicated by logistical challenges for several protagonists. With the restart, everyone began to get used to the new reality we live in. Considering the other Formula 4 championships that started following the pandemic, the Italian one was the most popular, becoming the benchmark in its category." What have been the main challenges? "For sure, the uncertainties in confirming the start of the championship and the first events. It was not clear when we could begin, and once we decided, we had to schedule the first round well in advance, to allow everyone to prepare. We took a risk, but it paid off. The most significant operational difficulties were the logistics of drivers, teams and also of our staff. It was easier to adapt to the new regulations and protocols, which has become routine.” De Donno con Jean Todt
