18 Formula Regional European Championship Petecof takes title in tough Prema challeng The Formula Regional European championship was decided with a high‐tension run to the final event of the season, with the Brazilian winning the title on Prema teammates Leclerc and Rasmussen by Mattia Tremolada T he second and final season of the first for the current cycle of the Formula Regional European championship saw Gianluca Petecof come away victorious. The Brazilian got the nod on his teammates, Arthur Leclerc and Oliver Rasmussen, with the latter who, after starting as an outsider, ended up third after barely missing the jackpot. Leclerc and Petecof made their voices heard in the opening rounds, but both missed several days of testing compared to the Dane, who delivered a great improvement during the season. In the end, Petecof's greater consistency played a decisive role, despite the Brazilian driver no longer getting back to victory after four wins claimed in the three opening rounds. Leclerc, on the other hand, paid a dear price for three DNFs, two of which were caused by driving errors, which heavily affected the fate of the championship. The Monegasque proved his outstanding speed on all tracks, putting up an impressive weekend in the pouring rain at Mugello. In precarious conditions, Leclerc had no rivals, even lapping three seconds per lap faster than anyone. Leclerc and Rasmussen both achieved six wins, finishing tied at 343 points, but the driver of the Ferrari Driver Academy won the tiebreaker thanks to six second places. As happened in the debut season of the category, Prema was the dominant force, winning all titles and placing all four of his drivers on the podium.
