22 ADAC Formel 4 Edgar wins Red Bull battle Edgar and his American teammate Crawford were chosen by Helmut Marko and didn’t do each other any favour in the German F4 Championship. The British racer eventually prevailed and now looks at his future with confidence by Mattia Tremolada T he ADAC Formula 4 season was marked by a Red Bull dominance, and by the VAR team (an acronym for Van Amersfoort Racing). In fact, Jonny Edgar and Jak Crawford competed for the title until the very last race of the season, providing a year‐long battle featuring probably too much attrition. The experience sported by Edgar, who had delivered an impressive rookie season in Italian F4 in 2019, met the raw speed of Crawford, who landed in Europe after taking second place in Mexican F4, which he got at only 14 years of age. The Charlotte‐based driver made his debut with a double pole position in the series opener at Lausitzring but struggled to capitalize on his potential in the first half of the season, while Edgar showed to be more mature, cruising to three wins in the first five races which they immediately propelled him to the top of the standings. After gaining enough insight and experience, Crawford posted five wins as well. In addition, he took advantage of a few mistakes by his teammate, who proved fragile under pressure. In fact, Edgar clashed with the American twice in the last two rounds of the season, having the worst and losing valuable points. Crawford lined‐up for the final race at Oschersleben as the championship leader with two consecutive wins.
