14 F4 Spanish Championship Exponential growth Compared to previous seasons, the Spanish championship is experiencing an exceptional moment with almost 30 runners. The first two rounds of Spa and Navarra showed great potential with excellent drivers and top‐level teams T he prestigious frame of the 6 hours of Spa‐Francorchamps, the opening round of the 2021 FIA WEC, set the tone for the new Spanish Formula 4 season, the most anticipated in the history of the series with 28 cars on the grid for the inaugural round. In recent years, the Iberian series experienced exponential growth, which put it on the radar of many business insiders. The iconic Belgian circuit hosted one the two event outside the national borders. The series will return home for the next six rounds of the season. After the first two outings of Spa and Navarra, Dilano Van't Hoff, formerly the vice‐champion of the Formula 4 UAE series with five wins and 13 pole positions out of 15, is leading in standings with 119 points, more than twice compared to his closest contender, Enric Bordás, second with 57 markers. Van't Hoff is leading the MP Motorsport operation, the Dutch team that has won four out of five championships and fields nine cars for 2021. The combination prevailed in the first two races of the season in Spa, hitting the top step of the podium in the final race in Navarra. Van't Hoff inherited the lead late as early dominator Bordás was stopped by a technical problem in race 3 after winning race 1 and 2. The Spaniard, lining up for his second season with the Formula de Campeones team, was the surprise of round 2 cruising to victory from P3 in race 1 before dominating the two remaining races from pole. Bordás re‐established himself in the Spanish squad after a great showing by Dani Macia in the opening round with a second place in race 1. by Mattia Tremolada
