24 Interview/De Gobbi A winning format For the 2021 F3 Asia by FIA championship, it was necessary to run only in the Emirates, and with a compacted calendar between January and February. The choice definitely paid off, with more than 20 cars running in all five events and high‐ quality grids featuring several Formula 2 drivers and members of the F1 academy programs by Mattia Tremolada “The 2021 season has been an extremely positive one, even beyond our expectations ‐ says Davide De Gobbi, general manager of Top Speed, the championship promoter ‐ It was obviously very complicated to organize the series and, for some time, we weren't even sure that it would run. The Covid‐19 pandemic led us to a compact format, consisting of 5 consecutive events in the same country. Surprisingly, it turned out to be a success, with drivers and teams enjoying their stay in the UAE for a limited and continuous period of time, driving non‐stop for 25 days. The interest in the series has grown considerably, and we are very satisfied with the numbers and the competitive level. Drivers coming from Formula 4 also had the unique opportunity to meet some Formula 2 colleagues who took part in the same series to stay trained and gain F1 super license points."
