14 Saucy gets the honors With eight wins, as many pole positions, and ten podiums, at least one for each round except for Monaco and Monza, Gregoire Saucy was a surprise dominator for the 2021 season. The Swissman put up a highly impressive run and mathematically clinched the title at Mugello despite a slight drop in the final part of the year. In the end, he did not score a win in the last three events. As said, it was a surprising outcome because Saucy never got a win in his five years of competition. That was partly due to a contradictory path that saw him debut in Formula Renault 2.0 before heading back to F4. In 2021, Saucy not only proved to be fast, exploiting the full potential of his ART Grand Prix‐prepared car but was equally clean and consistent, avoiding any kind of mistake. The move to FIA Formula 3 will be the logical consequence, and it started off well with three positive days of testing. David, Aron in pursuit Saucy immediately gained a good margin on his fellow competitors while both Hadrien David and Paul Aron struggled in the early part of the season. Both contenders had two wins to their name, but none of them collected the expected results. They ran for R‐Ace and PREMA in postseason testing and for them, a third Formula Regional season is expected before making the step to Formula 3. The move seem set for Zane Maloney and Franco Colapinto. Maloney claimed one win in Sunday’s Monte Carlo race, and only surrendered the third place to Aron at the end of 2021. Colapinto paid a high price for his double commitment between Formula Regional and LMP2 sportscars, which prevented him from being at Imola. In addition, a few mistakes kept him away from the podium at Zandvoort. A hard‐fought comeback, featuring three wins between Spielberg and Valencia (although one slipped from him due to track limits), handed him P6 in points. Alex Quinn and David Vidales had disappointing seasons. The Brit started off well but then slipped back in a loss of pace by Arden Racing. The Spaniard took one win in the Imola opener, but got only two podiums in the rest of the year, rounding out the top‐10 in points.
