SLR82-14 .SADEV-TM.COM WWW FOLLOW US Spanish Formula 4 was one of the first championships to announce the switch to the second generation Tatuus F4, how did this decision come about? "We decided to extend our collaboration with Tatuus and Autotecnica. They supported us since the start of the championship. Obviously, the safety aspect was crucial, with the halo system and the anti‐intrusion side panels making a key step forward. If we want to be among the most renowned championships, we have to use the best material, and Tatuus is definitely the F4 benchmark". The final race of the series in Montmelò wrapped up the lifespan of the Tatuus T‐014 as it was the final race of its venerable career. How important was this car to the development of the championship and for the entire F4 concept worldwide? "This car has been a great success since its debut eight seasons ago. It has an unparalleled quality‐price ratio, which allowed many drivers to make the transition from karts to single‐seaters. It is very reliable, easy to use, and perfectly embraces the spirit of F4. For us, it was an excellent testbed not only for the drivers but also for anyone who wants to make the first approach to motorsport, including mechanics and engineers. Besides the new car, what will be the main innovations for the 2022 Spanish F4 championship? "We want to try and preserve the quality of the championship in the long term, so we decided to limit the maximum number of cars to 28, allowing each team to field a maximum of four of them to put everyone on an equal footing. We really believe in this decision. We don't want a too large grid because it's very risky and from a sporting point of view, and in the end, it could turn out to be harmful. In fact, the quality of racing would suffer, and with more than thirty cars on the track, the races can become chaotic, featuring many safety car interventions. This would not help the drivers in their growth process.”
