TCR World and life
10 EUROPE The Barcelona podium also hosted visits by drivers from two of the top Belgian squads: Team WRT and Comtoyou Racing. Both had endured a string of frustrating outings and hadn’t finished in the top three since their home races at Spa, but in Spain the Audi RS 3 LMS cars of both teams found a more favourable hunting ground. WRT’s Santiago Urrutia took third in Race 1 after delivering excellent pace in both wet and dry conditions throughout the weekend. Unfortunately, a mistake while fighting with Tom Coronel prevented the Uruguayan from recording another top- five finish in Race 2. Comtoyou’s Gilles Magnus retired in Race 1 but had a perfect ending to Race 2, putting pressure on Dan Lloyd until the end and taking a brilliant second. Another hero in Barcelona was Jack Young, the 17-year-old Ulsterman who made a stunning debut in the series by taking two fourth places with the Renault Mégane RS of Vukovi ć Motorsport. Not bad for someone coming straight from the British Renault Clio Cup and a good proof of progress for the French car built by the Swiss outfit that had missed Oschersleben to focus on development. “The work done is paying off and there are more improvements coming,” commented sporting director Eric Nève. Monza awaits the TCR Europe series for its grand finale on October 11th/13th. And the ‘temple of speed’ is a fitting stage for the last act of a thrilling season.
