12 ASIA LucaEngstler retainsthetitle DIEGO MORÁN TAKES THE LION’S SHARE AT BANGSAEN The TCR Asia title was awarded in Thailand, on the tricky street circuit of Bangsaen, where Luca Engstler was crowned Asia champion for the second consecutive year. It’s yet another title to be added to his collection that also includes the 2019 TCR Malaysia and 2018 TCR Middle East crowns. However, over the Thai weekend Engstler couldn’t manage to improve his already impressive tally of six race wins during the season and his teammate and title contender Diego Morán took the lion's share of the points. The Ecuadorian won both races in his attempt to beat Engstler in the final sprint to the championship, but second in Race 1 and third in Race 2 secured the title for the young German. RACE 1 – ENGSTLER AND ORIOLA MAKE MISTAKES Morán won the first race that was shortened after a three-car crash, taking advantage of Engstler’s early spin and a drive-through for Pepe Oriola. At the start, Engstler sprinted from pole ahead of Oriola and Morán, but spun at T2 and rejoined in 7th position. The safety car was deployed to allow Jakraphan Davee, Douglas Khoo and David Lau to restart their cars after they had stalled to avoid crashing into Engstler’s spinning Hyundai. When the race resumed, Oriola led from Morán, Kim Jin Soo, Gao, Adam Khalid and Engstler. The latter recovered quickly, overtaking Khalid, Gao and Kim, while Oriola served a drive-through for jumping the start and dropped back, handing first
