His success, along with the Bronze Medals won by his fellow compatriots in Drifting and Karting Slalom, also meant that Russia was awarded with the Nations Cup. The Touring Car Cup, reserved for TCR machines, proved one of the most spectacular categories in the new multidisciplinary event, with twenty drivers at the wheel of cars of eight different brands. Gavrilov staked a claim on the Gold with a lights-to-flag victory in Saturday’s first race, and so his second place in Sunday’s Race 2 behind Gilles Magnus was enough to secure the title. Magnus won Silver for Belgium and sealed a 1-2 for Audi, while Mat’o Homola completed the podium in his Hyundai claiming the Bronze Medal for the Slovak Republic. Luca Engstler, who was regarded as one of the top seeds, blew the engine after setting pole position for Race 1. This meant that he only joined for a few laps in Race 1 and then was placed at the back of the grid for Race 2; but to cap a frustrating weekend he was eliminated by an incident at the start.
