24 INTERVIEW By clinching the title in the Campeonato de España Resistencia, Alba Cano became the first lady driver to be crowned champion of a TCR series. However, this was not her first important achievement in the category, as she had already won the 2018 24H Barcelona, sharing the car with Laia Sanz, Jordi Gené and Francesc Gutiérrez. “I am very pleased, as it has been a very hard season due to the high driving level in the championship. The champion was decided in the last race with four drivers in contention for the title. At the beginning of the season our goal was to finish on the podium, but as the season progressed and results were positive our main focus shifted to winning the championship.” Driving a CUPRA for Monlau Competición, Alba was impressive in her consistency. She missed out on winning races, but finished on the podium five times and scored points at every race. “The team has a long experience in this championship and from the beginning of the season we tried to be consistent in every race. Due to the championship format that adds handicaps if you get a podium, we knew that it was going to be very challenging to claim race victories, and so we tried to score as many points as possible. The team did a great job finding a good set-up to save the tyres, which was one of the main problems. And I also adapted my driving style to reduce the tyre wear. The last race was a 2-hour and we asked last year’s champion David Cebrián to join us and he did a great job.” Alba was not the only competitive
