MALAYSIA 16 ROUNDS 3 & 4 – LLOYD TAKES MAIDEN VICTORY IN RACE 2 Lloyd was promoted to pole for Race 1 following a penalty for Engstler that dropped him to fifth due to an engine change. The Briton took the lead at the start from Gilbert Ang, Gruber and Josh Files, but Engstler moved up to third, ahead of Files and Gruber. The leading trio ran in close formation for the first four laps, but when Ang and Engstler had a fight over second place, Lloyd opened up a 2.4-second gap. Despite Ang’s great defensive drive, Engstler overtook him on lap 7 and closed in on Lloyd. They ran abreast into a few turns and touched, until Engstler managed to get the lead on lap 10 and pulled away, with Lloyd finishing second ahead of Ang. Tommy Ku was on pole for the reversed grid of Race 2, but spun at T2 following contact with Files, who took the lead from Ang and Engstler. On lap 2, Engstler overtook Ang for P2 and began chasing Files. For several laps Files managed to keep Engstler at bay, while Ang and Lloyd followed them closely, then on lap 8 Engstler lost control and went off, which prompted the safety car into action. Racing resumed on the final lap with Ang attacking Files who was struggling with tyre problems; the young Malaysian went wide, Lloyd seized the opportunity to pass him and then snatched the lead from Files, taking his maiden win in the series. Behind him Ang pipped Files on the line for P2, with Gruber finishing a close fourth. TCR Malaysia will come to an end with rounds 5 and 6 on February 28/29, again at Sepang.
