18 EASTERN EUROPE MichalMakeš isthenewpoints leader POLISH ROOKIE BARTOSZ GROSZEKWINS ON HOME GROUND ON HIS MAIDENWEEKEND IN TCR RACING Michal Makeš took the lead in the TCR Eastern Europe standings after the championship’s first visit to Poland. The Czech driver and his Mičánek Motorsport CUPRA won the first race at Poznán and finished second in Race 2; these results helped him to move ahead in the classification, 11 points clear of Tomáš Pekař who was classified second in Race 1 and retired from Race 2 when a drive shaft on his CUPRA broke during the last lap. In Saturday’s race (above), Makeš made good use of the pole and led for the whole distance from Pekař and Szymon Jabłoński who followed him until the end. Polish rookie Bartosz Groszek created a surprise by claiming an authoritative victory in the second race at the wheel of an Audi RS 3 LMS run by the Horňák-Aditis team (right). Groszek the winner of the 2020 TCR Eastern Europe SIM Racing Series, was facing his maiden weekend in TCR racing. He sat on pole position of the grid Round 5 – Saturday 12 June, Tor Poznán 1. M. Makeš (Mi č ánek Motorsport, CUPRA); 2. T. Peka ř (Carpek Service, CUPRA); 3. S. Jabło ń ski (BM Racing Team, Hyundai i30 N) Round 6 – Sunday 13 June, Tor Poznán 1. B. Groszek (Hor ň ák-Aditis, Audi RS 3 LMS); 2. M. Makeš (Mi č ánek Motorsport, CUPRA); 3. S. Steibel (Steibel Motorsport, CUPRA) determined by a draw that reversed the top-eight of the first race, made a perfect getaway and led from Łukasz Stolarczyk, Steibel and Makeš. He then benefited from the fight behind him to pull away and built a small gap, winning ahead of Makeš and Steibel.
