TCR 2017
After a frustrating weekend in
Georgia, the DG Sport Compétition
Opel Astra cars dominated
Qualifying, with Mat’o Homola just
edging out Pierre-Yves Corthals to
make it a 1-2 for the team. An
engine change after Free Practice
meant Homola started Race 1 from
the back of the grid, however, and
a Balance of Performance
adjustment then meant Corthals
struggled to match his Qualifying
pace in the two races.
In Race 1, a stunning start saw the
M1RA Honda Civic of Roberto
Colciago storm from the second row
of the grid into the lead going into
the first corner and the Italian
driver then never looked back. The
victory – his second in the
International Series – also meant
Honda became the third winning
brand of the 2017 season after the
victories for Alfa Romeo and SEAT
in the first two races. Second-
placed Hugo Valente finished on
the podium, while Jean-Karl
Vernay in the solitary Leopard
Racing Volkswagen Golf secured
third place.
Race 2 again delivered an exciting
spectacle, with pole-sitter Ferenc
Ficza and Dušan Borkovi
ć
being
beaten to Turn 1 by Attila Tassi.
