PREVIEW
Italy’s was one of the first national
touring car series to accept the TCR
cars back in 2015. After a maiden
season as one of the classes in the
CIT (Campionato Italiano Turismo),
TCR rose to the major category in
2016 and eventually the promoter
ACI Sport renamed the whole series
as TCR Italy Touring Car
Championship for 2017.
Although last year’s champion
Roberto Colciago has made the switch
to the International Series, the new
season looks promising with a field
of 16/18 cars. Among the probable
title contenders are Samuele Piccin,
third classified in 2016 (MM
Motorsport Honda Civic Type-R),
Andrea Argenti (South Italy Racing
SEAT León) and the Pit Lane
Competizioni pairing of Nicola Baldan
(SEAT) and Massimiliano
Mugelli (Audi).
The calendar is comprised
of seven events at some of the most
famous motorsport venues such as
Imola, Monza and Mugello. The
opening round will be hosted by the
Adria International Raceway
on May 6 and 7.
