TCR 2016 NEWS HOME DRIVERS TEAM
After more than a year of intense preparation by the entire staff of Kronos
Events, the TCR Benelux kicked-off on last May 21-22 on the unrivalled and
beautiful scenery of Spa-Francorchamps.
It was a moment of both pride and emotion, as it was more than fifteen years
that the Benelux, one of the historic cradles of Touring Car racing, was
waiting for the comeback of a ‘real’ Touring Car series. Now, the TCR concept
and regulations have made the dream possible.
Five different car brands (Volkswagen, SEAT, Opel, Honda and Alfa Romeo) are
represented in this inaugural edition of the TCR Benelux Series, which will
include six meetings and visit the three Benelux countries. The sporting
regulations are specific to the series, with the format built around a one-hour
endurance race and no less than four 20-minutes sprint races. The TCR
Benelux is also innovating in other areas, with fans having the possibility, for
instance, to form the starting grid of the longer race, by expressing their
support to their favourite drivers through the social networks.
The first event saw the participation of 28 drivers, including touring car
racing stars of the calibre of Tiago Monteiro and Tom Coronel, very close
fights and six drivers under 21 years of age…
