At first glance, it might have looked merely
like a crazy idea. But now it has become
clear that Marcello Lotti’s proposition was a
very clever one; to bring Touring Cars, the
models from mass production, back to
racing and to the forefront of
international motorsports.
‘From the street to the track’
is the perfect slogan and
with a simple recipe too:
identical regulations in
every corner of the
world. And so, the TCR
International Series has
become the showcase
from which is emerging
national series across the
globe.
Constructors immediately
understood the new opportunity
to foster brand awareness by selling
racing kits for cars homologated to race at
reduced costs. It’s a golden chance for
drivers too, attracted like bees around a
honey pot. Hence, national and regional
series are flourishing, given the possibility
to race anywhere in the world with the same
cars.
In this context,
Motorsport.comcould not
stay away from the project: we are an
editorial web platform that has 20 different
editions in the world (and I have the honour
to be at the helm of the Italian version) and
one that generates the most traffic talking
about racing cars and bikes.
The affinities are evident and so the
cooperation can only be fruitful for both
sides…
