When the TCR International Series
arrived in Imola for rounds 7 and 8,
nobody could have predicted the
shakeup to the championship that
would occur in the two Italian races
and the two at the Salzburgring a
fortnight later.
The first six rounds had witnessed five
different winners, with Pepe Oriola’s
two wins in Bahrain making him the
only double winner so far.
Thanks to those victories and a second
place at Spa, Oriola had a two-point
lead in the Drivers’ series over his Craft-
Bamboo Lukoil teammate James Nash,
with Gianni Morbidelli in third place, a
further two points adrift. Things would
look very different by the time the TCR
circus would roll out of Austria,
however, as three other drivers had
joined the title fight: Stefano Comini,
Jean-Karl Vernay and Mat’o Homola.
Gianni Morbidelli, Stefano Comini and Pepe Oriola are in the title fight once again
