As of next year, FIA will be imposing a
complete ban on 15 year olds competing
in Renault 2.0. What’s your reaction to
this diktat?
“It was probably time that someone
imposed some order in this area: the
various national associations offer a
bewildering array of different categories
and regulations, and the widespread
tendency to court these young drivers
can easily result in damaging or even
ruining their careers. FIA’s ban is part of
a wider project designed to allow young
drivers to develop gradually as they
move up through the ranks. The project
appears to be a well structured and once
it comes into force we are certain that
will be a great benefit to our category,
which is currently one level above the
theoretical entry level for a 15 year old
driver.
