The extraordinary and meteoric rise of Daniil Kvyat who, after
winning the competition organised by Fast Lane Promotion
in 2012, and the GP3 title in 2013, will be making his debut
in the Toro Rosso world championship team next season
F
From F.Renault 2.0 ALPS to
the cockpit of the Toro Rosso
STR8-Ferrari Formula 1 car, in
just 9 short months. Daniil
Kyvat must have thought his
career was moving rapidly in
the right direction already back
in July, after being invited to
participate in a test drive in a
world championship car. But
the surprises just kept coming
for Junior Red Bull program's
young Russian driver when,
just over a month ago, Toro
Rosso named him as one of
their official drivers for the
upcoming 2014 Formula 1
season. Let’s have a look back
at the important dates in
Kvyat's recent career: 21st
October 2012, secured the
ALPS title at Montmelò, 19th
July 2013, completed 22 laps
behind the wheel of the Toro
Rosso at the rookie test
sessions in Silverstone , 21st
October 2013 the Faenza
based team officially
announced his appointment
for next year’s Formula 1
competition. Note the amazing
coincidence of the 21st
October… Lastly, 2nd
November 2013, Kyvat wins
the GP3 title. To ensure that
he gets as many kilometres
under his belt as possible,
Toro Rosso gave him the
chance to debut in the world
of Grand Prix during the first
practice sessions on the
Friday in Austin and Sao
Paolo. A fantastic opportunity
for Kvyat, who acquitted
himself with skill and
professionalism. Last year, the
long-limbed Daniil was the star
performer in a close fought
championship, racing in the
team Koiranen GP that
enabled him to take the title
over Norman Nato, in a duel
that was finally decided by a
contact between the two
during the final race of the
season on the Catalan circuit.
Kvyat frequently displayed the
qualities and skills that would
stand him in such good stead
in GP3 and the FIA F.3
European Championship in
2013. Then came the dream
call-up to the world of F.1…
