De Vries sets
the pace at Pau
And at the track located close to the Pyrenees,
Nyck de Vries continued the demolition work on
the hopes of his rivals that started at Imola. The
Koiranen Grand Prix Dutchman scored a
sensational double pole position and then a
double win to show incredible focus and speed
skills. The Junior McLaren driver seas flawless,
dominating both races in different weather
condition without a single glitch or mistake. He
showed a vast superiority and his opponents
could do very little to try and reverse the
situation. With this 1-2, Nyck got four wins in
four races… an impressive 2014 roll of honor. In
the French university of motorsport, many other
youngsters showcased themselves. Matevos
Isaakyan and Charles Leclerc shared the
second places. Isaakyan was at his series debut
after being forced to miss round 1 due to age
restriction. The JD Motorsport driver showed his
pace immediately and even managed to create
some problems to the flying Dutchman. His
second place came from a great qualifying
performance when he led his group twice. A pity
that in Race 2, when he committed a small
mistake with just a few kilometers to go. Taking
advantage of that was fellow rookie Charles
Leclerc, who conducted a clever and precise
races. He was also lucky because of the self-
inflicted retirements of Isaakyan and George
Russel but nobody can be held responsible and
accused for not making mistakes. Simon
Gachet ended up third in Race 1, while Hugo
De Sadeeler took the seme result in the second.
Russel also showed some good form: although
in Race 2 stalled his car at the start of the
formation lap, he stayed close to the
frontrunners in the first heat. At Pau, Alessio
Rovera showed he will also have his say in this
season. The young Cram Motorsport driver was
quick in qualifying when he scored second
place of his group just 0.01s behind de Vries.
An excellent debut that wasn’t paired with good
results on Race Day: Alessio had to face the
cruel and merciless nature of the Pau circuit.
Nonetheless, he showed some great potential
and there will be more chances to take
something good out of this series for him.
