One of the pillars for the Formula Renault 2.0 ALPS
is with no doubt its championship schedule. With
the season moving through some demanding,
selective and world-renowned, navigating them
well usually guarantees a good chance of success.
From this point of view, the ALPS championship
fears no comparison as its schedule has always
been one of the series’ strongest points as
recognized by the teams and drivers. A look at the
list clearly gives a prompt confirmation as it
includes - citing a few - venues like Imola, Spa-
Francorchamps and Monza. That’s what we are
talking about. These tracks are chosen with a very
precise logic, their future utility. The goal is to
adapt to the needs of major motorsports,
particularly Formula 1. In other words, as it races
on tracks that are part of the Formula 1 schedule,
the ALPS experience will be extremely useful for
the rest of a driver’s career. That’s what the teams
and drivers want and that’s the main reason why
drivers approach a developmental category.
Preparing young drivers on tracks and in situations
that they will have to face in their future while
driving more powerful cars and living in more
complex environments. The ALPS calendar has
everything. Imola is a very technical track as it has
every kind of conners, chicanes, uphill sections and
downhill braking. Pau is the Monte Carlo of the
ALPS calendar. It’s a street course that needs no
introduction. Then, the up-and-down Red Bull
Ring, the long straights of Monza and the tough
corner of Spa-Francorchamps that leave drivers
breathless. And again, the difficult and twisty
Mugello and Jerez. These tracks are unanimously
recognized among the most important for the
selection of who really wants to go straight to the
top in this sport. In this issue we will analyze the
first four tracks of the ALPS schedule thanks to the
words of the drivers who drove on them. How they
felt in racing there, their emotions and their
memories. That’s what the drivers think of Imola,
Pau, Spielberg and Spa-Francorchamps.
